' ...The Strongest work in this show includes two vitrines of small bronze objects by Peter Haines called An Archeology. Where others in this exhibition provide sentiment for antiquity, Haines, quoting the structure and ideology of the museum, exposes the limits of our inheritance of the past. His objects simulate found ancient tools in their handsized, clean undecipherability. Familiar in their apparent handiness, they suggest utility but remain only aesthetic. Seemingly a part of our humanity, they remain detached and ungrasped. This is a work that gets at a rich layer of ideas about the past as something both gathered and made up: the past as a collection of artifacts; the past as art itself.'
